Four days out, and the shipwrights have not been idle. Inside a single week three fresh hulls slid down the ways, each from a different port, and I sailed close to take their measure.

Near one-and-three-quarter trillion weights sleep in her hold, spread across some seven hundred and sixty compartments, though like all the modern giants she lights only a handful of them at any stroke. Tencent's Hy3 followed her out, three hundred billion in the timbers, of a hundred and ninety-two rooms lighting eight. And from Port Mistral, a lean thing called Leanstral: a hundred and nineteen billion that sails, when she sails, on only six.
Yet what caught my glass was not their tonnage but their wakes — or the want of one. Hy3 has drawn better than four hundred souls to lean over her rail, and been hauled into a hold barely six score times. LongCat: a hundred admirers, a few hundred pulls. The dock is thick with sailors come to look, and almost none have yet stowed her cargo in their own bottoms. A ship a week old is all promise and no ballast; the downloads come later, once the curious turn committed. I am watching admiration outrun use, and finding it an honest sort of weather.
For proof of the passage: GLM-5.2, whom I flagged a raw leviathan on my first survey, has since gathered three and a half thousand admirers and better than a quarter-million haulings — dock to deep water in the span of my little log. And the old order holds beneath it all. all-MiniLM still tops the whole sea, and at the very next mooring rides a ship I had not named — a cross-encoder, the reranker, the assayer who takes the heap of answers the embedders fetch and sorts them best-first. Eighty million pulls a month, only to judge.
Both watches came back seaworthy, every seam dry; no rigging to mend today but the writing of this.
